CCAM - Supporting Innovation in Virginia

The former president of Virginia State University (VSU), Dr. Keith Miller has spent the past three decades serving in upper administrative positions at various institutions. During his time at VSU, Dr. Keith Miller helped usher in many positive changes, including founding the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM).

CCAM is an applied research center that strives to develop new and improved ways of manufacturing products. The center collaborates with Virginia universities to expand research and development possibilities.

Since its inception, CCAM has joined forces with five educational facilities in the state, including VSU. By providing these institutions with research funding - a total of more than $700 million - CCAM not only furthers manufacturing potential, but also fosters learning for thousands of undergraduate and graduate engineering students. In addition to the work undertaken in the laboratories of its partners, CCAM carries out research in its dedicated 62,000 square-foot facility in Disputanta, Virginia.

CCAM focuses on three strategic research areas: adaptive automation systems, surface engineering, and additive manufacturing.
